A little about Puukko knives... Puukko knives have a flat spine which enables the user to place a thumb or other hand on the spine for extra force when cutting. Puukkos are very versatile and are used primarily as a tool for carving and for fishing and hunting. Hunting puukko's have a blade tip that curves downwards slightly to make skinning and opening the animal easier and less messy. Spyderco’s newest tactical folding knife, the Spyderco Double Bevel features a unique double-ground blade. Near the handle it is hollow ground and has a full-thickness spine for maximum strength, making this section ideal for demanding cutting chores. Near the tip the blade is fully flat-ground for superior edge geometry and low-friction cutting performance. The flat-ground section also features a distal taper that terminates in an American tanto-style point for an exceptional balance of tip strength and sharpness. The Double Bevel’s VG-10 stainless steel blade features the famous Spyderco Round Hole for ambidextrous one-handed opening.

The handle of the Double Bevel is built on a foundation of full skeletonized stainless steel liners that also form the basis of the knife’s improved Walker LinerLock mechanism. When the blade is opened, a spring lock bar integral to the reverse-side liner engages a concave ramp on the blade’s tang, blocking the tang and locking the blade securely open. This lock geometry, was pioneered by custom knifemaker Bob Terzuola, it provides greater strength and security than conventional flat lock ramps.

The Double Bevel’s four-position hourglass pocket clip offers tip-up or tip-down carry on both the left and right sides, allowing the knife to be easily configured to suit any carry preference. A lined lanyard hole in the butt end of the handle also supports the attachment of a lanyard or fob.

From it's massive imposing 12.25" blade to it's handsome rosewood handle, every inch of the Cold Steel Frontier Bowie is awesome! The 1917 Frontier Bowie is almost sword-like in its cutting and thrusting performance, the Frontier Bowie features a wide, wickedly keen hand-sharpened blade with a generous clip and huge fuller (blood groove). Made from 1055 Carbon Steel, it has been heat treated to a hard spring temper and beautifully blued to a lustrous finish. It's blade is both long and stiff which makes it an easy to feat to oppose even much larger weapons.  The blade is wide and sharp and it welcomes the opportunity to cut, thrust and deliver a "palpable hit".
The Handle on the Frontier Bowie is a perfect accompaniment to its stout battle-ready blade. A big "S" shaped guard provides great hand protection and the slim, flat profile prevents the knife from twisting in your hand so you'll always know the orientation and alignment of the blade edge, even in the heat of combat. The handle has a modified pistol grip that gives an excellent grip even when utilizing a palm reinforced grip for extended reach and leverage in the thrust.
A high quality leather sheath with a blued steel throat and chape is included. It's swiveling leather belt frog is wide enough to accommodate even a thick military belt and fully detachable to allow you to slide the knife into your belt for traditional carry.
This versatile bowie knife is suitable for historical re-enactment groups from the 1830's onwards, Cowboy Action Shooters, civil war re-enactors and even modern Military groups.  If you're a fan of the Bowie, you'll definitely want to ad the Frontier Bowie to your collection!

Sharpening Karambit & Hawkbill Blades (Part 1)

When it comes to sharpening a Karambit knife or hawkbill style blade make sure you use the right sharpener and technique to put a really scary sharp edge on your hawkbill blade.

Because of the curved blade shape on most Karambit knives, I have found that flat benchstone sharpeners and most Arkansas flat stones just do not get the job done.

The best sharpener to sharpen your Kerambit knife is one that has round or triangular shaped rods. Honing Steels, butcher steels and round ceramic sharpening rods work well. Some of my favorites are the Lansky 4 rod diamond ceramic sharpener, the Lansky turn box crock stick sharpener and the Spyderco Triangle Sharpmaker.

With the proper sharpening technique and right sharpener you'll have the edge of your karambit razor sharp!

The Original TDI Knife was designed by John Benner, founder of Tactical Defense Institute. A former Police Lieutenant, Drug Task Force Coordinator, and SWAT Team Tactical Field Commander, Benner has more than 30 years' experience in the law enforcement field. He has developed courses for raid tactics, defensive tactics and knife programs that are currently taught to law enforcement, military and civilian groups.
The TDI/Hinderer knives are design collaborations between Tactical Defense Institute President and Chief Instructor, John Benner, and custom knife maker, Rick Hinderer, owner of Hinderer Knives. Based on their combined respective experiences as a veteran police Lieutenant and Fire Fighter/EMT, John Benner and Rick Hinderer have designed knives for real-world emergency situations - where a sure grip and quick draw are paramount. Features an ambidextrous friction-fit glass reinforced nylon sheath which can be attached at multiple angle to fit anyone's personal preference.
